Culture Show

Published on March 29th, 2008

Today I was invited to a culture show for the University of Guelph. It was a great privilege to attend. I was very amazed about the acceptance and unification of the different cultures the college had to offer.

The show was a combination of cultural dance, poems about world issues and ended with a powerful duet between two female students. Which got a standing novation at the end of the night. I was very impressed by Guelph university open minded community that welcomed the idea of unity and harmony between cultures and the idea to display it once a year. Better yet the show was free!

It would be a great idea if colleges around Canada made it an annual event to display the culture of all students in ONE show. Guelph University has set a standard for colleges to follow. I am aware that McMaster University does a show annually however it seems to be a fading events the schools curriculum. This years "Pangea" as it is called as McMaster was a great disappointment. Few people came together to show case their culture and is wasn’t very organized. Hopefully next year it gets better for Mac. However i do have to commend them on their ’separate’ culture shows. Where each culture would have different events to display were they originated and or their heritage. Some of the most popular and successful groups are the South Asian Alliance, McMaster African Student Association and the African Caribbean Association.
